In the heart of Birmingham City Centre, at Alcester Street and Green Street, a significant high-rise construction project is underway. Led by Caddick Construction, this two-year project demands thorough planning and execution, particularly in terms of traffic management. Enter Sign Pig, a new signage solution provided by our Urban Solutions team as part of the traffic management to address some of the challenges faced when working in busy urban environments.
Caddick Construction required a comprehensive traffic management plan that not only minimises maintenance but also ensures safety and accessibility for all pedestrians, including those with disability such as wheelchair users and the visually impaired. In such a busy urban environment, this is where Sign Pig steps in as the ideal solution over conventional signage.
Unlike traditional signage ballast weighing around 30kg, each Sign Pig unit weighs an impressive 250kg. This heavyweight temporary signage is designed to withstand all weathers and the demands of a long-term construction site without the need of frequent maintenance interventions, truly built to last with zero fuss ballast.
Sign Pig's reduced width footprint ensures that footways remain open and accessible for everyone. Its design is considerate towards wheelchair users and those who are visually impaired by providing safe and clear routes through its raised signage mounted at three metres high, offering superior visibility over parked cars.
Approved for active travel, these signs allow cyclists and pedestrians to navigate beneath them effortlessly. Available now through our Urban Solutions team, Sign Pig represents smart signage for smart cities, ensuring that Birmingham's vibrant city centre remains accessible and safe throughout this duration of the project.
