We are proud to have successfully completed our latest PAS 2080 audit with BSI, achieving certification with no non-conformances for the third consecutive audit.
The two-day audit involved interviews with 13 colleagues from across the business and a detailed review of evidence supporting 16 carbon reduction initiatives delivered across our high-speed and low-speed traffic management and barrier operations. The audit examined a broad range of innovations, including the Enhanced Mobile Carriageway Closure (EMCC) technique, Intellitag, lower-carbon concrete, green steel, renewable site technology, innovative traffic signal solutions and our zero-emission traffic management vehicles.
Among the initiatives reviewed during the audit were:
- A66 Long Newton to Elton and A1(M) Junctions 61–62 VRS renewal schemes with Roocroft and National Highways: The use of lower-carbon concrete, green steel and hybrid and solar-powered site equipment delivered combined savings of 388.14 tCO₂e. On the A66 project, lower-carbon concrete reduced embodied carbon by around 30%, while green steel achieved approximately 42% lower embodied carbon for the substituted material volumes. Similar reductions were achieved on the A1(M) scheme, including a 48% reduction in embodied carbon through the use of lower-carbon concrete.
- Portsmouth Trisails with Chevron Traffic Management and Portsmouth City Council: The Enhanced Mobile Carriageway Closure (EMCC) technique removed the need for traditional lane closures during the works, reducing traffic management emissions by 66% and saving 4.74 tCO₂e.
- Area 3 Maintenance and Response pothole repairs with Chevron Traffic Management and Kier Transportation: The continued use of EMCC has reduced traffic management-related emissions by approximately 82%, avoiding around 8 tCO₂e to date.
- M4 Wroughton Overbridge fencing scheme with Chevron Traffic Management National Highways: The HRS Intellitag solution has enabled remote monitoring of traffic signage compliance, reducing maintenance-related TM emissions by 86%.
- Lower Thames Crossing with Chevron Traffic Management, HW Martin and Balfour Beatty: Our fully electric traffic management vehicles continue to reduce operational emissions on the project, delivering savings of 1.5 tCO₂e to date.

Earlier this year, we published our 2025 Greenhouse Gas Report, reporting a 6% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions compared with 2024. This latest PAS 2080 audit reinforces the work taking place across the business to turn our carbon commitments into measurable outcomes through innovation, collaboration and smarter project delivery.
