Studmarc® Tactile Walkways and Crossings
Temporary modular tactile surfaces for inclusive navigation
Studmarc® Tactile Walkways and Crossings provide clear, compliant guidance and hazard warnings for visually impaired pedestrians in temporary routing environments. Designed to replicate the safety and consistency of permanent tactile paving, the system ensures accessible wayfinding across roadworks, station platforms, events, and public spaces where surfaces are disrupted or uneven.
The interlocking modular design allows fast installation and removal without tools. Each 1 m × 1 m mat connects via a precision jigsaw edge, forming a stable, anti-slip surface that stays securely in place under pedestrian flow. The modular system adapts to any site layout with straight runs, corners, T-junctions, and crossing points, enabling a consistent tactile route across complex pedestrian areas. Manufactured from durable, high-grip polymer, the mats remain firm and weather-resistant, maintaining tactile definition in all conditions.
Two tactile patterns are available: the Blister Surface, which uses a raised dome profile to indicate hazard warning and crossing points, and the Directional Surface, which features elongated bars to guide pedestrians safely along defined routes. Both patterns comply with Department for Transport (DfT) specifications, with the Directional Surface further approved in the Network Rail Design Guide (June 2024).
